My 8mo. old kitten continues to put toys in the water bowl?

We change the water frequently and she continues to put especially one toy in it: a catnip mouse which used to be underneath a cat scratcher. She also puts a green one with strings on it into the water...she also collects the ties from the bread and puts them in the water. Why is this? We also have two other cats, her brother and a 3yo cat around.

My cat does this as well. I read in a cat behavior book that it's a territorial thing. The water dish is their safe territory because it doesn't move from day to day. So they know they are putting their toy in a "safe" place when they are done with it. She must really like the catnip mouse.
