What method for spray painting your car with aerosol cans is best?
My car is a junker and not worth a REAL paint job. I have no experience but I can spray a can evenly! I don't want the job to peel afterwards, so I would like to know if home depot has everything I need? Paint type, clear coating, and sand paper type for a small spot of rust? As cheap with little effort as possible!!
I know I should probably sand and prime. But HOW do I sand and prime. I'm not happy with the answers so far, except Black Rustolium works well and use a hairdryer. These are incomplete answers!
NOW I'M GETTING VERY ANGRY!!! When I'm DONE with this car... It's getting CRUSHED! You people can't give good answers so don't ANWER THEN!!!!
first of all i dont recomend spray can painting for autos. you probably have a body shop in town or close to you, like spray glo there everywhere that paints autos cheap.but if you are dead set on doing it with spray cans.you first need to sand the car so the paint will stick to it.sand it with 320grit paper.when you sand it just scuff it up,do not take it down to bare metal, there is no use in doing so.unless you have a bad spot,if you have a bad spot such as rust sand it with 80grit paper then go back over it with the 320 grit to make it smooth.if you take it down to bare metal you will have to spray primer on the bare spot only, dont spray primer on nothing but bare metal spots. and after the primer is fully dried you need to sand it lightly, just scuff it up with the 320git paper so the paint will stick.make sure you tape up mouldings, emblems, lights, all chrome, windows etc, before spraying primer or paint to keep from getting on them.you need to get primer surfacer thats sandable thats laquer, but you may have a hard time finding laquer.the paint needs to be for metal not wood.and it can be laquer, laquer paint dries faster but wont shine as much as enamel does, enamel paint takes several hours to dry.the money you will spend to do it this way will be costly,if you plan on applying several coats of paint.which with a spray can you really need 4 0r better coats.and thats going to take a lot of cans of spray paint.you dont need to spray clear coat on it,buy the paint that does not require it,such as enamel.depending on the size of the car you are looking at over$150.00 or better for this.
