litter box? and scratch post?first time cat owner?
I clean out his poopy with the scooper every morning and every night.
I wash it out and get him a new batch of litter every weekend. But I heard some one say you should do that once a month. Am I doing this wrong by doing it every weekend?
Oliver(the cat) also wont use his scratch post. I don't know how to train him to do it. The only time he uses it, is to jump off of it to reach his feather toy. I don't want him ripping apart our furniture so how do I train him?
It is not necessary to clean out the litterbox that much, but if you dont want the smell, go ahead. Cats use the litterbox for digging and actually prefer it to be clean. If it gets too dirty, a cat will look somewhere else for digging.
Try rubbing catnip on the scratching post. Or maybe the scratching post is too short. cats like to stretch on their scratching post. He might not like the scratching post you have. Mine have ones that are flat on the floor. One has a ball that goes around and the cats get so excited they have to scratch the scratching part. And they love when i put catnip on their scratching post. they'll sit there and scratch all day.
I also cut their nails, which decreases the amount they need to scratch.
