Please help me with the Explication of this Poem.?
I'm suppose to write a half page on this poem "Ornamental Sketch with Verbs":
Sunset runs in a seam
over the brows of bulidings
dropping west to the river,
turns the street to a gilded stagger,
makes the girl on skates,
the man with the block of ice,
the basement landlady calling her cat
creatures in a dream,
scales with salamander-red
the windows-pitted walls,
hairs the gutters with brindled light,
helments cars and boys on bikes
and double-dazzles
the policeman's portly coat,
halos the coal truck where
nuggets race from a golden sled,
Festoons lampposts to fantastic trees,
lacquers sooty roofs and pavements,
floats in every puddle
pinks of cloud
flamingos all the pigeons,
grands all dogs to chows,
enchants the ash cans into urns
and fire-escapes to the Orleans balconies.
-"runs in a seam" in the first line is where the buildings and sky come together as the sun runs into it (meaning the sun is setting)
-"dropping west of to the river" is like the phrase "the sun rises in the east and sets in the west"
-"gilded" means a golden color and "stagger" may represent the uneven, almost tottering, shadows on the street.
-the next 4 lines is about different types of people all becoming dream-like. possibly meaning they're vanishing in the darkening sky or growing tired
That's the 1st part. I won't do the 2nd part for you, but this should give you a nice start.
