How to make my own pencil case?

I wanted to make a puppy pencil case like this:

find both a sewing pattern for stuffed toys,
and pattern for pencil bag/ case/ pouch, and combine ideas,

the animal puppet design could be made separate, then add zipper on sleeve, and flip inside out to sew bottom closed, or fold and sew outer seam,
in essence you cut out pieces for pencil case, flip inside out, sew three sides together, and leave one side open, if you are using zipper, add that along open seam, or option to use velcro or ziploc or snap buttons, other parts for puppy ears and eyes can be sewn separately and then sewn or hand sewn to attach to main case,
