how to scare a dog away?
rite my we cousin is absolutly terrified of dogs and in the morning when she is waiting on the bus there is this really friendly collie who just wants to be petted and she starts either walking away or running and the dog thinks she is playing with it.
I told her to stand still, with her arms folded and just ignore the dog and it will eventually get the hint to leave her alone, but she wont listen to me, is there anything that she can buy or use to get the dog to leave her alone
thanks
I have a young collie who is attracted to small kids because they do completely the wrong thing. I am doing my best to train him to ignore them then a kid runs/squeals or cries and hinders my training. I am on constant alert until he grows up abit, is better trained and is not intereseted. Your advice is spot on but if she won't listen to you can you not be with her ignoring the dog together so you can prove to her your method works, then she won't be frightened. Collies are intelligent and will quickly get the message.
The owner of the dog should be more responsible but I don't advise your cousin to use methods as described by some other answerers. If she startles the dog and it runs under the bus that would be a tragedy or she may trigger some aggression if she is not in control of her discipline. It's not her job to correct the dog, you must talk to the owner.
