Kitty and Caffeine?
My cat Stingray....he gets into EVERYTHING. I have two others that are very docile, but Stingray once got caught in a running washing machine...(somehow I lifted the machine and got him out), he set his tail on fire by walking on a table with candles..(poor fluffy tail, very stringy for a while), if I flush a toilet, or turn on water in the kitchen, he dashes in to watch whatever go down the toilet, or the sink...never misses.
Now, he has started a new thing, that I am not sure if it could hurt him. I am a coffeeahoic. And have a home office, so I leave my cups of coffee around while I am working. I have caught Stingray several times, dip his paw into the coffee cup, lick off the coffee, and double dip....does it until he is caught. I don't always catch him, just see the tell a tell signs of coffee drops around my cup.
Do you think this is harmful to him? He already is one unique cat......but drinking coffee....hunting it down to drink it.....is my cat addicted to caffeine?
If enough is eaten it can be fatal for both dogs and cats. The lethal dose of caffeine for dogs and cats is 150mg/kg body weight, and regular instant coffee contains over 60mg caffeine per teaspoon - so for a 3 kg cat 8 teaspoons of coffee would be potentially fatal, and there is NO ANTIDOTE.
Suggest you lock your coffecups away.Don't think he's die from stealing bits, but surely not healthy.
