How do I make my dog be scared of my cat?
I have a 5 yr old dog and she's scared of my cat. She's a rott mix so she's like 10x bigger than the cat too. Like, if the cat is standing at the top of the stairway, she won't even set foot on the stairs. She'll stand there and whine until we move the cat before she'll go up the stairs.
My 10 month old puppy however, is the complete opposite. He tries to sniff the cat and he hits the cat back when she swats him. I've had him since he was 8 weeks old, so it's not like this is new.
He knows what "leave kitty alone" means by now, but I don't want to have to tell him, I want him to know not to mess with her to begin with. How do I make him scared of her like my other dog is?
This is the most interesting question i have seen. This shows that your canine is playful and is following his genetic code.Try not to make your dog be afraid of your cat but more likely respect the cat as another member of the household.
Set a minimum time of 10 minutes aside.get help from any family member.Put the two of them into an empty room with you and your family member. As you say, your cat will go to one corner and of course your dog will go towards the cat.And your cat will swat your dog. Then you two go to another corner(both of you together)and see who comes to you. Then ask another family member to bring in toys.and play with your dog and cat for 5 minutes.Make sure they are near each other.Continue to do this for a few times.Make sure your dog pays attention to you.Your dog and cat, theoretically will get used to each other.Hopefully this will works. All the best.
