My cat is scared of dogs, would it be safe for me to get one?
I have an eight month old cat,but every time my friend has brought her dog over he has hid the whole time and when the dog smelled him he hissed and swatted. would it be possible for me to get a dog and them eventually get along? I dont want to get a dog and have my cat be miserable. My cat is very good with all people, always walkin up to people and having them pet him. He isn't very hyper, but he is a major cuddler. I dont wnat to have him hiding all the time if I get a puppy
Oh, my boyfriend has a cat too that is over lots, and they play allll the time.
OK. I'm going to get a lot bof Thumbs Down for this answer but ignore them.
Get a very young puppy. Most people gripe and complain if you get one that is younger than 8 weeks. Total BS. Dames are done with their pups by about 4 weeks as they have those tiny sharp teeth. Most puppies are eating solid food and ready to go at 5 weeks. I breed Huskies and all but one I got before they were 5 weeks old. My Wolf Hybrid was 2 1/2 weeks when I got her. Best dog I've ever had.
My point is that the younger you get a puppy the easier it is to bond with it and your cat is not going to be afraid of it. My cats beat the puppy's butts and the puppies remember that.
My wolf hybrid is 120 lbs. My Huskies range from 72 lbs to 45 lbs.
None of them will mess with any of my 5 cats. They will kill any Rabbit, Opossum or Raccoon that climbs into their 1 acre pen but they will never mess with a cat. Any cat.
Take it for what it's worth but a young pup raised with a young cat will always get along.
For those of you who give me a Thumbs Down, buzz off. I've been raising very young pups for 13 years and they all end up healthy and very obedient. The 8 week rule is total BS.
