Can I make tee shirts featuring a cat from a Russian Cat Food web site?
I've heard that since it's from a Russian web site, there might not be any copyright issues. However, I don't know for sure, and I think the Russian Cat Food company may actually be owned by a German company.
My product will feature a stylized depiction of the cat, most likely wearing a winter hat.
Can I do this legally or not?
Please don't answer this unless you actually know what you're talking about. There's enough nonsense floating around the Internet, that's why I'm asking real people now instead of Google. I don't want to hear about what you "think" the law says. If you are a lawyer or a lawyer told you something about this (and you remembered it correctly), THEN I'd like to hear what you have to tell me.
Doesn't matter if it's Russian, copyright law is international.
Try writing to the company and asking permission to use it. They may ask for royalties as a percentage of sales.
If you go ahead without it, you can be sued.
